Alor Setar is my mother’s hometown, which is situated in the North West of Peninsula Malaysia. Alor Setar is also the largest rice export in Malaysia.
Alor means ‘Small Stream’ and Setar is referring to the tree named ‘Setar’. This particular series is a collection of my best photographs. Shot throughout the years, which capture the landscape scenery and daily life of the people there. My grandparent’s home means a lot to them because it is where they lived through the hardships and sweat throughout the years of building and raising the family since Japan occupation of Malaya.
My family and I will always travel back to Alor Setar to celebrate Chinese New Year with my grandparents every year. Alor Setar is the spark to my photography journey as the place itself offers a lot of great views and sceneries to be captured.
