Youthful energetic Malaysians with a hungry ghost’s appetite born in this food paradise. We eat to live and live to eat! Born and raised in Malaysia, it pains to see that one of the world’s food heavens is not getting the attention it deserves internationally. Bearing in mind the abundance of mouth-watering food and spectacular locations the country has to offer, YONGL stumbled upon the idea of combining the two.
Intention:
I created this series by adding an innovative value to the practice of promoting Malaysia’s food culture. By representing and accentuating our diverse cultures through the composition of food and landscapes, we hope to take it to the next level with Fujifilm’s help.
FOOD + LANDSCAPE = CREATIVE ARTWORK
More so, there is definitely room for this “food + landscape” formula to be applied beyond the vicinity of Malaysia, to tell a different story across other continents. Until the Covid situation gets better, Malaysia would be our starting point for a fine introduction using this photo concept. Without a doubt, we hope to bring Malaysia and eventually Asia to the world stage.
Action:
For some artworks, I used stock images from shutterstock sites to assist in executing this vision as it is during pandemic era when i had this idea to create this series of work but I could not travel around due to physical restriction. Meanwhile for some other artworks I incoporated real photos of food i purchased from real vendors offline, even collaborated with friend from Instagram in order to create the final piece.

Intention:
Thanks to social media platform like Facebook, the series went viral and it manage to catch attention of potential clients who invited us to pitch and propose idea to incorporate their brand product into it.
