Streets Of Kuala Lumpur
che ahmad azhar inspiration, started as photography assignment

observing the streets of kuala lumpur every weekend

I came in touch with street photography thanks to my photography lecturer from faculty of creative multimedia MMU Che ahmad azhar, I remember vividly in his classes when he shared his weekly routine of taking the KLIA transit train to Kuala Lumpur from Putrajaya and he will always observe the street around, waiting for the perfect moment or perfect stranger to pass by the scene in his camera and captured it. I started exploring the streets of Kuala Lumpur too when I was working on his assignments together with my friend, Kampung Baru is a place that holds a lot of meaning to me as I remember when I first explore KL using the LRT Train the kelana Jaya line from kl sentral, the line heading to Klcc there is not much ppl go down when the train stop at Kampung Baru (a station before Klcc), out of my curiosity, I hopped out and started walking around the place and even came across a nasi lemak place which become a meeting spot for my friends and I in kl.

I captured some of my best works there which is heavily influenced by chemad street series, and I eventually adopted the weekly routine for myself as well, every weekend I will take the rapid bus from cyber Jaya to Putrajaya sentral with my friend and then hop on the train to the city to capture the streets and observe the daily life there. Other than Kuala Lumpur I also used the trains to explore many areas in Selangor from north to south Rawang to Klang.

My camera lenses of choices are prime lenses 35mm and 50mm as suggested by my lecturer himself, prime lens force the photographer to move himself and to not stick in one spot thus this will have better chances of producing better works instead of relying on only zoom lens. Prime lens also force the photographer to be brave to get close enough to the subject in the photo.

The time spent walking the streets of Kuala Lumpur and mingling around with the local on the ground is not wasted as those experiences shaped who I am today and also the stories I tell with my camera and tools
